Lindsay Maloney, Owner / Trainer
As long as I can remember I have loved dogs and had an interest in dog training, so saying Fluxpack is a labor of love is no understatement. I believe each dog should be approached as an individual and each family has their own unique goals for living with their dog, so it comes naturally that a customized, personal approach is needed when addressing the training and recreation needs of any dog. While a certain set of basic skills is useful to almost all pet dogs, at Fluxpack we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to dog training. There are so many viable options to address different learning styles and temperaments, so I will not discount any option or any tool that may help up develop a clearer understanding with the dog.
At an initial consultation, I am most interested in hearing about the owners lifestyle, issues and goals they have so that we can get to know the dog and develop effective strategies to move forward in a productive way that benefits everyone. Not all dogs can walk safely on a flat buckle collar just as all dogs do not need to be trained on a remote collar. Effective management, training and consistency are the cornerstones of any harmonious relationship with a dog.
Having worked with several local trainers of many different disciplines with my own personal dogs over the last 15 plus years, and working professionally as a trainer at a local daycare and dog training center, I have crafted my own approach to living with and training dogs of all kinds. For me, that starts with a reward based basic obedience training program that develops a relationship with the dog and brings a positive association to learning new things. Once the dog learns something new and demonstrates understanding, only then can they be held to that knowledge and corrections can be applied. Teaching a dog the meaning of Yes and No is a simple way to begin that escapes many new dog owners as they begin their journey, and operates as an effective refresher for more seasoned owners. This is the foundation on which we build our communication with the dog themselves.
Dog trainers are as unique as each individual, so I encourage you to do your research. There is a massive spread in the dog training community right now between "purely positive" and "correction" trainers, and each trainer falls somewhere on that spectrum. I am proud to say I am one of the trainers blending all modalities and approaches into a modern approach depending on the dog at hand. I do not and will not limit owners or their dogs to any particular approach based on preconceived notions and work to find the least aversive method of correction that is still effective for the dog, which oftentimes is only a firm verbal No. I am also proud to say that I do not hide my work from the public eye. It is my objective to be as transparent as possible to develop a strong comfort level and trusting relationship with my clients and their dogs.
Leaving the shackles of other modalities and inflexible training systems behind is the most freeing part of this process of bringing Fluxpack into the full light of day. I am dedicated to also bring all the skills I have gained from a 15 year corporate career in risk management and operations to build personalized and canine solutions to assist those in my community and beyond. I hope you will join the pack!
